KJB Design & Planning was founded by Kieren Bentley, bringing more than 25 years of hands-on construction experience into residential design.
Having spent more than 25 years working hands-on in the building industry, I've seen first-hand how decisions made at the design stage can affect what happens later on site. That experience now shapes the way I approach every project.
I design with more than appearance in mind. Layout, buildability, structure, practical use of space and the realities of construction are considered from the beginning — helping homeowners develop designs that work both on paper and in the real world.
Today, I work directly with homeowners across Leicestershire, providing design, Planning and Building Regulations drawings for extensions, conversions and home remodelling projects.
From Construction to Design
More than 25 years working hands-on in construction has given me an understanding of buildings that goes beyond producing drawings.
I've worked with plans on site, dealt with the practical realities of construction and seen how design decisions can affect everything from buildability and structure to cost and the finished space.
That experience is now brought into my design work.
When developing a proposal, I'm thinking about how the homeowner wants to use the space, but I'm also considering how the new work relates to the existing building and how the design is likely to translate into construction.
The result is a practical approach to residential design — combining creative thinking with real-world building experience.
